Jojo Walks in a Lap-a-Thon

Jojo is in the fourth grade this year. She’s been cruising around the school campus on her own two feet. She has close supervision with her aide while she works on balance. At home she’s everywhere. In the fridge. In the pantry. Opening kitchen drawers. My makeup drawer in the bathroom. Her brother’s stuff (he’s not loving that). It is messy and it is wonderful.

Jojo moved to a new elementary school last year for the third grade. The special day class she attends at this school is a better fit for her. She loves her teacher and her friends. Her school does a lap-a-thon fundraiser every fall. What a perfect event for Jojo to show off her relatively new walking skills!

There is so much beauty in raising a kiddo with disabilities. It can be easy to miss on the tough days. And not every moment is beautiful. But for me, this is one of the moments. The ability to participate in a lap-a-thon is a given for most families. For us, it is a reminder of how far Jojo has come, how hard she has worked, and the many miracles we have witnessed. I can’t wait to see what comes next.

If you want to donate (absolutely no pressure), please click here. How badass would it be for a girl who’s only been walking for 2 years to WIN the walk-a-thon fundraising?
